A broken throttle cable is a real obstacle to progress but Harley- Davidson torque being as it is I was able to limp to the M42 services on tickover revs. A call to MAG Rescue produced man with a van ............. in 15 minutes followed by man with a tow truck Mike and then another man with a tow truck ...... . Clearly a genuine roadside job demanding a little resourcefulness and patience
made a nice change for them. In this throw away world of head wagging tut tut “can’t do anything with that guv,” I expected a defeatist shrug and a long wait for a recovery truck. What a refreshing change to find that Mike had boxes full of cable cores, assorted nipples and soldering kit.
An hour or so of measuring snipping, experimenting and soldering and abracadabra! I was
on the road again. I had to get to The Farmyard
Party however and Jane had ridden up from Devon to Glastonbury to join me for the ride so there was no delaying the voyage of adventure.
As the bike had been standing outside for weeks I’d sprayed it with white grease hence its filthy appearance which did not reflect a generally poor attitude to maintenance I wish to emphasise.

NB Lowrider charts a trip to Israel on a 1970s Triumph Bonneville that needed surgery every step of the way. The journey would have been a lot easier with these chaps around. One thousand thanks effendis!
