In 1964, Amilcare Merlo established Merlo SPA in Cervasca, Italy, and began producing mobile construction equipment.

Today, its main facility in Cervasca (90 minutes from Turin) occupies 1.3 million square feet and employs 1,200. With Merlo’s philosophy of building as much in-house as possible through the use of automation, a tour of the facility shows 38 robots, 16 machining centers, 11 automatic steel cutting lines and 3 high-tech powder coating lines. More than 90% of production takes place in Cervasca.

Merlo’s fi rst telehandler arrived in 1981 with the SM series, which is still in use worldwide today.

A series of true innovations ensued, including “industry fi rsts” for side- engined telescopic handlers, rotary telehandlers, the fi rst true ag tractor/telehandler (MultiFarmer), and the fi rst 26,500-pound capacity unit. Big performance advancements in compact design, safety and visibility, maneuverability, and hydrostatics soon followed. And more innovation is assured, as the Merlo family remains committed to research and mechanization.

In addition to the P55.9 (pictured), dealers of AMS-Merlo have a broad depth of telehan- dlers for various applications to offer their customers, including Compacts, Panoramic, Roto, TurboFarmer and Multi-Farmer.

“With Merlo’s emphasis on safety, performance, and quality, we are very excited to have the opportunity to present the Merlo line of Telehandlers.…”

— Garth McGillewie, President
