A BRIEF HISTORY
THE WWE 2Kfranchise began earlier this year following the publisher’s acquisition of the series from now defunct publisher THQ. The new title is by Japanese developer Yukes, who began making licensed WWEgames way back in 2000 with the release of WWF SmackDown! (back then published by THQ). The game became one of the most popular for the PlayStation in 2000, selling over 975,000 units. Rebranded to WWE SmackDown! vs. Rawin 2004, the Yukes-made series was expanded to a yearly release cycle and launched on Xbox 360, PS3 and mobile devices, ending the series’ previous exclusivity to Sony’s console.
