by Greg Lockley

ANGRY BIRDS Star Wars II has beaten Rovio’s

expectations by topping the UK mobile charts. The Star Warscrossover title, which uses physical toys similar to Skylanders and Disney Infinity, launched last month to critical and commercial success and debuted at the top of the UK iOS charts during its first week on sale.

“It has definitely met our expectations in fan

response, sales and rankings. The first Angry Birds Star

Warswas our most highly rated Angry Birdsgame so our expectations were equally high for the sequel also,” said Jami Laes, executive vice president of Rovio Entertainment. MICROSOFT VP Phil Harrison has tipped Titanfall to be Xbox One’s killer app. He told MCVthat Xbox One is beating its rivals when it comes to games, calling out the reception Titanfallreceived at E3. The EA-published game is exclusive to Xbox One and 360. “The most important thing is the games. And coming out of E3, we had almost twice as many ‘game of the show’ nominations than our nearest competitor,” he said. “The industry, journalists and the media are voting our games as the strongest. We have an exclusive relationship with EA and Respawn on

Titanfall, which is the most heralded game in E3 history. “I had a chance to get in

front of Titanfallat Gamescom, and there is a really incredible thing that Respawn has done. The verticality and change in level design from six-foot tall to 40-foot tall is inspired, it is a really magical video game moment. It’s something new, impactful and I’ve never seen before. “I am very confident that this is going to be a big, big system seller. Every generation sees a new IP explode in a powerful way, and right now I would say Titanfallhas a big chance.” You can read more from Harrison on page 18.
