Argentina ~ Remote Patagonia
Feel like getting away from it all? “Patagonia is the farthest place to which man walked from his place of origin,” wrote Bruce Chatwin, which is precisely why adventurers have long found the wind-slapped tip of South America so alluring. Our new 8-night walk in Argentinean Patagonia highlights the compelling silence of the steppes, the grandeur of glaciers, the ever-changing vistas of snow- capped mountains, and the magical emptiness of a land- scape once the domain of sheep farmers and outlaws on the run, such as Butch Cassidy, whose wild life you can ponder while eating pie in the tavern where he stayed. We follow the footsteps of early settlers, meet gauchos from the nearby ranches, and cruise to near-touching distance of the great Perito Moreno glacier. Along our journey, we spy guanacos, hares, condors and flamingoes, and maybe even a puma. Trip extensions include a city-stay at a boutique hotel in Buenos Aires, relaxing on an estancia near San Antonio de Areco, and hiking in Torres del Paine National Park, in Chilean Patagonia.
