Travelogue: One Family’s Story Travel with Those You Love Best

he Wayfarer hikes are without a doubt my favorite holiday experience, having taken 11 walks over the past 23 years. I first read about The Wayfarers in a 1985 article in ‘The Stars and Stripes’, and sent the article to my mother. She was born in England but had been living in America for more than 30 years. My mother had always wanted to return to England to visit the places that had been off limits in the aftermath of WWII.
My great-grandmother was from Pickering and we adored James Herriot's books, so Yorkshire was high on our wish list. In June 1986, we took the James Herriot's Yorkshire walk and loved every minute of it -- the countryside, flowers, food (yes, even then!), places mentioned in the books, meeting Alf Wight, our bed-and-breakfast lodgings, our
