fellow walkers and especially our Walk Leader and Manager. It was the perfect holiday, and a recipe we repeated five more times in England. Much more than just a vacation, each trip was a time for the two of us to catch up, separate from our daily lives, and share our mutual passion for the English countryside and heritage.
Very sadly, we lost my mother to leukemia in 2005 but our happy memories of The Wayfarers' holidays sustained us during her illness and have provided me with a great deal of comfort since her passing. In recent years, my husband and I have taken three Italian walks with The Wayfarers and introduced our daughter, Monica, into The Wayfarer fold.
For her university graduation present, Monica chose a walk in Provence. Thanks to the wonderful care of Eric, Antonia, and Caroline, we all had a fabulous time. I needn’t have worried that Monica would feel out of place as the youngest person in our group; everyone was marvelous and she enjoyed every minute. I am certain we will share future Wayfarer walks together, just as I did with my mother.
(Editor's Note: James Herriot was the pen name of Alf Wight. Until his death in 1995, Mr Wight used to regularly meet our Yorkshire groups for a chat in the pub.)
