Italy ~ Lakes Como, Maggiore, Orta & Lugano

Bella Italia! The lake district of Northern Italy is every bit as spectacular as you’ve heard, with its crystalline azure waters, forested shores, Renaissance villas and backdrop of snow-capped Alps. Though this region is a long-time favorite haunt of the rich and famous, this 7-day/6-night itinerary takes us over mountain trails, lakeside paths and flower-filled meadows, allowing us to discover a region of tidy tile-roofed villages, marble cathedrals, vintage railways, and the omnipresent scent of honeysuckle. We admire San Giulio Island's monastery on Lake Orta and explore the peacock-inhabited grounds of the Palazzo Borromeo on Lake Maggiore. At Lugano we travel by private boat and cog railway to Monte Generoso to have lunch in a rustic mountain eatery before descending to Lake Como, where we’ll hike the shoreline and stop at the 18th-century Villa Carlotta.

Czech Republic ~ Vienna to Prague

This easy-to-moderate 7-night itinerary is a wonderful opportunity to discover the modern Czech Republic, set against the historic landscape of one of Europe's oldest countries. Crossing the border from Austria, we discover a land rich in folklore and tradition, with quaint farm villages, red-tiled roofs, wooded hills, rare flowers and tranquil lakes. We marvel at Baroque architecture, meander through majestic, landscaped parkland, explore the romantic town of Ceský Krumlov, and sample beer in one of Europe’s oldest breweries. Our trip finishes in the bustling capital city of Prague, where we walk across the famous 14th- century Charles Bridge, wander through labyrinthine cobbled streets, and visit the breathtaking Prague Castle, set on a hillside overlooking the glorious City of a Thousand Spires.

Note: The Wayfarers has now introduced a new sequel walk from Prague to the Saxon capital of Dresden, which picks up right where this walk leaves off.
