New Zealand ~ Spectacular South Island

No other company covers New Zealand’s amazing South Island like we do. Our 13-night easy-to-moderate itinerary delivers a broad, once-in-a-lifetime experience of the South Island. We begin in Queen Charlotte Sound, where the Queen Charlotte Walkway delivers panoramic views of the island’s diverse landscapes. Further south in the quaint seaside town of Kaikoura, we watch seals basking along the dramatic coastline as we sample fresh seafood. We then turn inland to Arthurs Pass National Park and the majestic Southern Alps, where we stop at the Wilderness Lodge to learn about the natural history of this beautiful area.

Next, we travel to the west coast to experience the island’s lush rainforests and river tracks, winding through primeval landscapes. The Porari River Walk takes us into a natural gorge with vast walls of ancient rock and to the strange, magical pancake rock formations at Punakaiki, before we continue to the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. Then it’s on to Wanaka, where we enjoy tranquil lakeside walks and a hike to the summit of Mount Iron, which rewards with unsurpassed views of Mount Aspiring National Park. In picturesque Arrowtown, an old gold-mining town, we take a leisurely walk along the shady river track that meanders through the township, keeping our eyes peeled for errant nuggets.

Further south in Queenstown, we make the Sunshine Valley Walk following Lake Wakatipu's shore before moving on to the Routeburn Track, a wonderful natural beech forest walk that includes mountain waterfalls, babbling rivers and awe-inspiring ranges. Finally, we conclude our adventure in Millbrook Resort, near Queenstown.
