Countdown to innovation
By my reckoning there are one hundred days to go before the opening of Fastener Fair Stuttgart 2013 – fewer by the time you read this.
A
ctually, for me, it’s a bit more sobering to realise it will be eight years since Fastener Fair first made an appearance at the old Stuttgart Messe, with a couple short of two hundred exhibitors, courageous enough
to commit to the concept of a European show dedicated to the fastener and fixing industry. These days, it feels more like an institution than the risky venture it probably was in 2005. An astounding 750 exhibitors are expected at the 2013 fair.
We’ve done our best in this issue to preview them but limited space inevitably dictates we’ve had to be somewhat selective. Nevertheless, there is a huge amount of information across the complete spectrum of exhibitors to help you plan your trip to Stuttgart. You will, of course, be going. Who won’t? So worth a quick reminder to pre-register for your ticket – to both save some money and time entering the show. One of the most important things about ‘Stuttgart’ for me is
the opportunity to find out what is new in the fastener and fixing world. I am, therefore, very pleased to say that this magazine will again be cooperating with Fastener Fair to discover who will be the Fastener T
echnology Innovator for 2013. As previous holders will tell you it’s an accolade well worth winning. To be eligible you CONTENTS

need to be an exhibitor at Fastener Fair 2013 and have launched a new product or service in the twelve months leading up to the Fair. Then simply look out for the invitation from Fastener Fair to participate and make sure you put your product or service forward in time for the deadline. Every valid entrant (there are some straightforward rules to
which each entry must comply) will be featured in the January issue of Fastener + Fixing Magazine, which will be the special show issue. A team of expert judges will scrutinise all the entries to decide which truly deserves the title of Fastener T

Innovator. Then in our March issue we will take a really close look at the winning product and the two runners up. All in all, a very special opportunity to establish your innovatory credentials that is really not to be missed. Talking of innovations, we have one in the editorial department
at Fastener + Fixing Magazines. Claire Edwards has joined us as assistant editor and I am pleased to say is rapidly adapting to our curious ways. You’ll have a chance to meet Claire at Fastener Fair Stuttgart, and more than likely hear more from her as she takes on some of the responsibility for editing our Products, Tools and Management + Systems sections.
