TOOLS
Benchmark in battery riveting technology
HS-Technik says that its new battery blind riveter - PowerRiv® the new standard of battery based riveting tools for the industry.
W
ith a maximum force of 18,000N, HS-Technik states that the high power version is unbeaten in the market. The regular version with a maximum force of 15,000N fulfils the requirements of most
riveting applications. The heart of the tool is a maintenance free brushless high power engine, which guarantees high speed riveting, less energy consumption, long battery life cycle and high power. With the powerful 18V 1.65Ah premium
lithium-ion battery the tool is capable to pull approximately 800 x 4.8mm steel rivets. This ideal weight- power ratio ensures a non-tiring work, even in series productions. For an even longer cycle time an optional 18V 3.3Ah version of the battery is available. The electronics of the tool run a self-protecting
program in order to prevent the tool being damaged through excessive overload. In addition to the self- protecting program a fuse is installed as a backup. An OLED-Display in the rear of the tool shows
important status information with symbols and plain text. Through a USB interface in the base of the tool, the PowerRiv can be programmed for industrial requirements, for example a rivet counter, a service counter and a counter for container emptying. The blind rivet counting function prevents blind rivets from being forgotten in series production. The service interval display and collection container emptying display prevent damage caused by a lack of maintenance. Furthermore the PowerRiv features a unique battery management that monitors the batteries
- defines
behaviour at all times, even when the tool is working. This prevents the lithium-ion battery from deep discharging and damage. In addition the battery management shows the user in due time that the battery must be replaced. Through the tool management software further features like software and tool language, pressure control and the speed
of the tool can be adjusted. In order to fulfil the EU Directive 2006/42/EC
(Machinery Directive) machinery and tools must be
secured in such a manner that the user is not subject to any danger. The PowerRiv meets this requirement by means of:
• Pressure control. • Collection container monitoring.
The pressure control ensures that a blind rivet can only be processed if the pressure device has been
activated, preventing inadvertent triggering. The collection container monitoring makes sure
that it is only possible to perform work if the collection container has been correctly mounted, and thus no mandrels can be ejected. HS-Technik points out that its safety features are unique in battery riveting tools and guarantee combined with a power LED illuminating the rivet location a safe
work environment. For future models of the PowerRiv HS-Technik plans to
integrate the process monitoring technology from its BNG-2010 battery riveters. In addition to that HS-Technik says that it is also planning a version with a force sensor measuring the actual force during the riveting process and monitoring the complete process.

100% portable riveting
The new Avdel eRiv® b10 battery riveting tool frees the Avdel assembly process from the restriction of compressed air lines.
T
his efficient, reliable and ergonomic tool has been developed for users who require total portability for on-site or field work, or who want to eliminate compressed air lines from their workplace to improve workstation access, EHS and production efficiency. Lighter in weight and more compact than other battery tools the eRiv®
b10 improves manoeuvrability in difficult applications.
ranging from 3mm - 5mm nominal diameter. Avdel highlights that the adaption of the Genesis®
The powerful 14.4V tool with a high pull force of 9kN and a long stroke of 21mm places break stem rivets nose equipment is a key benefit to users. The tapered
nose equipment improves access to application components and the three eRiv nose tips incorporate a device that retains the rivet stem in the nose equipment when riveting in a ‘nose down’ position leaving the other hand free for other tasks. A powerful LED light illuminates the application in low light environments. The transparent quick release
stem collector bottle ensures the spent stem level is always visible. The 1.5Ah lithium-ion battery has a short charge time of 60 minutes and is equipped with a charge indicator. The eRiv b10 tool kit comprises the battery powered rivet placing tool, one 1.5Ah lithium-ion battery, a
charger unit and three nose tips. The complete kit is supplied in a plastic case. A 3.0Ah lithium-ion battery is available as an accessory.
