CONSTRUCTION FIXINGS

Chemfix receives ETA O

Chemfix Products Ltd was recently awarded an ETA for its CH+ fast curing chemical anchor resin (ETA-12/0024), based on ETAG001 Option 7.

Doubling capacity Chemfix has also recently installed a new 40rpm 250kg Batch Mixer, which will sit

next to its twin in the facility, effectively doubling not only capacity and therefore speed, but more importantly the flexibility to react to customers’ demands. The current mixers are suitable for 1 part resins, with the added capability

currently underway of being able to mix the higher viscosity resin such as Timbabuild Epoxy Wood Repair, Epoxy Putty Gland Packs, and some of Chemfix’s very specialist epoxy resins for example used in the marine industry. Refurbishment of a previously owned 500kg is also on going with a view to

be installed during the site re-organisation during 2013. Production Manager Paul Drake is hugely excited by the developments

and has high hopes for the future. “This new capital equipment will make the synergies between raw material manufacture and filling production so much easier to co-ordinate, and strengthens our arm all round to delivering a total customer service.”

ption 7 specifies use in un-cracked concrete, meaning that the CH+ fast curing chemical anchor can be used in un-cracked concrete for threaded studs between M8 and M24 or rebar diameter 8mm to 25mm. Europe already has a code for the design of structures for earthquake resistance, Eurocode 8, however CE marked anchors for seismic zones are not yet available. That is due to change very shortly and Chemfix say it will be at

the forefront of this development. A new amendment to the ETAG001 (Annex E), which was ratified in September following 5 years of discussions, plugs this gap. Option 1 ETA (use of bonded anchors in cracked concrete) therefore paves the way for this approval (tests in cracked concrete are the obvious pre-cursor to the seismic testing) and Chemfix is currently undergoing its product testing for CH+ at the CSTB in Paris, France.
