Halstead lands coach contract

Just-in-time supplier of small components, Henry Halstead has won a GB£1.5 million contract to supply all the production lines of international bus and coachbuilder Plaxton.

he contract involves Henry Halstead’s Tyne and Wear company delivering an uninterrupted supply of small components to Plaxton’s plant in Scarborough,UK. It now forms part of a GB£5 million group contract with Plaxton’s parent company, Alexander Dennis Limited. More than 1,000 buses and coaches and 800 chassis are

assembled each year at Plaxton’s Scarborough plant. Commenting on the contract win, Henry Halstead general manager, Gary Russell, said:

“As a group, we were already supplying small components to ADL sites at Falkirk and Guildford and last year we were given the opportunity to further demonstrate our exceptionally high levels of service by managing the supply of small components to one of the eight production lines at Plaxton’s Scarborough plant.” Henry Halstead’s solution involved its own and Plaxton’s management teams identifying

better locations for production supply equipment and higher stockholding capacities to deliver unbroken supply throughout the production process. In addition, Henry Halstead has a dedicated ‘envoy’ based permanently at the Scarborough site. After a smooth changeover of suppliers, Plaxton has already seen substantial improvements

to service and product quality, as well as a more efficiently organised shop floor. Alexander Dennis Group commodity buyer, Russell Hayes said: “We have been delighted

with the service that Henry Halstead has provided at the Plaxton Scarborough site and at the other ADL sites at Guildford and Falkirk. They continue to provide an excellent level of service, backed up with knowledgeable staff who are able to deal with new parts, queries or issues swiftly and efficiently.”
