Hot Topics Roundtable:


During the popular Hot Topics Roundtable session, IFSA welcomed a wealth of industry speakers presenting on topics such as buy on board, green initiatives, back catering, the FDA’s Food Safety Modernisation Act, quality assurance and allergens. Four talented and dynamic chefs showed off their skills and creativity in developing tempting dishes.


Congratulations to Chef Ravi Nage, from Gate Gourmet North America, winner of this year’s IFSA Chef’s Competition! As the winner, Chef Ravi will receive a personalised Chef’s jacket and 165,000 Skywards Miles on Emirates courtesy of dnata.


Other contenders included Chef Garry Kneale, DHL; Chef Sara Lawson, LSG Sky Chefs; and Chef Stephen Parkerson, Flying Food Group. Chef Bob Rosar was a truly entertaining event emcee and the panel of judges comprised of: Alain Giraud, chef and owner of Maison Giraud;


Suzanne Tracht, executive chef – owner of Jar; Tomu Odawara, director of marketing of Hacor, Inc.; and J. Hemmer, director of Onboard Services of Cuisine Solutions.


IFSA Foundation Scholarships This year the IFSA Foundation experienced its most successful year to date, receiving 179 scholarship applications, compared to 41 in 2011. In all, ten scholarships were awarded valued at nearly $40,000 in scholarship funds, the largest amount since the Foundation’s inception.


IFSA Foundation Rock and Bowl The IFSA Foundation held a Rock and Bowl Event on the last night to raise money for scholarship funds. This year’s team sponsors included Alpha Flight Services, Campione D’Italia Foods, The Coca-Cola Company, DHL, EnRoute International, Flying Food Group, Gate Gourmet, Gourmet Foods, Inc., Harvey Alpert & Company, McGuire & Associates, Oakfield Farms Solutions and Lane Sponsor-DFASS.
