almost two years ago and have since been applied to a complete inflight kids’ suite of products including meal items, activity packs and onboard entertainment.
Fun For Kids has created a similar character for Italian airline New Livingston which launched a new kids’ pack this summer. Aimed at kids up to 10 years old, the character and stories are built around ‘Gullie’, an adventurous and curious seagull who loves to travel around the world meeting new friends and learning new things about life. The character was modelled on the airline’s trademark which was itself inspired by the story of the seagull, Jonathan Livingston, from whom the airline took its name.
This focus on a travel theme has an enduring appeal across age ranges not least because it plays into the creativity and imagination of the child as it is travelling.
Charlotte from Uniset, says: “Travelling is a big thing when you are a child. It’s a special feeling to get onboard an aircraft, see the cabin crew in their uniforms and know you are going somewhere away from home. It is important that travel activities are developed with the travel situation in mind.
“We work with different themes and one is the travel situation. The aim is to encourage children to express themselves and use their imagination and creativity. Kids love to create, present to their parents and get their recognition and we have worked with this for our Magic Sticker set.
“Children place the removable Magic Stickers on a related play board and move them over and over again to create new pictures and stories. “We have a full range of travel themes including the popular Animal Airport – a sample of which you will find with this issue. The child can make up stories about the travelling animals and their own journey; they are in a travel situation and toys reflecting the same situation
make them feel safe and taken care of.” Similarly, Kidzsmart, has used the travel
theme as it aims to deliver happy kids through engaging characters, activities, puzzles and games for all ages. Jean Power, director, Kidzsmart, said: “We recognise that travelling with kids is one of the most challenging times to keep them engaged and entertained. As parents of young children ourselves we have learnt that the secret to a smooth journey is ensuring that the kids were well occupied and happy.”
The company has developed two unisex Travel Fun Packs targeted at four to10 year olds. One is themed on Europe and the

other on the World. Children can learn about interesting places
around the world by following the adventures of characters Jake and Jessie. The packs can be semi-customised with a client’s branding and additional items can be added as the budget allows.
The pack contains a 16-page travel activity book with activities; colouring competition; postcard to send home; family travel game with die and counters; pencils/crayons.
