GoGo expands wireless vision across Delta


Gogo, the in-flight connectivity and streaming solutions company, will expand the use of its wireless inflight entertainment product – Gogo Vision – across the two-class and Delta connection fleet of Gogo equipped aircraft. Installations are expected to be completed during 2013 on Delta’s domestic fleet and installation of the new international Wi-Fi service (including Gogo Vision) completed by 2015. This will mean that Delta will have more than 950 aircraft fitted with Gogo connectivity and Vision systems.


During the installation process, Delta has also committed to upgrading its fleet to Gogo’s next generation connectivity solution (ATG- 4) which provides enhanced air to ground connectivity, improving the connection capacity for customers.


Said Michael Small, Gogo president and ceo, "As we begin updating the Delta fleet with our next generation ATG-4 connectivity service, we will also add the Gogo Vision product to those aircraft."


Videos for Gogo Vision are stored on an internal server on the plane and streamed to passengers' own Wi-Fi enabled device. Introductory prices will range from $.99 for television programming per show to $3.99 for full-length movies from major Hollywood studios. Garuda introduces OnAir mobile and WiFi


Garuda Indonesia will shortly be introducing OnAir’s inflight mobile phone and WiFi services, for emailing, text messages, updating social networks, phone calls and internet access on board its long haul aircraft. Installations will being later this year, with all 28 of its fleet of A330 aircraft to be outfitted with the service. The airline uses the aircraft to destinations across Asia, the Middle-East and Europe. The seven A330 aircraft already delivered will have the OnAir equipment retrofitted from November. The hardware will be line-fitted to the 21 new aircraft currently on order with Airbus.


OnAir’s services are available globally, thanks to over 80 regulatory approvals and around 350 roaming agreements with mobile network operators. OnAir currently uses the SwiftBroadband network (run by Inmarsat) and is also a Distribution Partner for Global Xpress, Inmarsat’s KA-band network which is expected to be available to airlines in 2015. “Garuda Indonesia is a highly respected and long-established airline in Asia Pacific, so the fact that OnAir has been selected to provide its passenger connectivity after a thorough analysis underlines the strength of our connectivity solutions,” said Ian Dawkins, ceo of OnAir. “Connectivity is now a must-have for any airline wishing to offer the most up-to- date cabin services.” www.onair.aero

Thai and Aer Lingus dial up AeroMobile


Thai Airways International has become the latest flag carrier to commit to AeroMobile, and will fit the award-winning system on 14 of its long haul aircraft (a mix of Boeing 777- 300ER and 747-400). The first aircraft is due to go live this autumn.


Paj Bjordal, ceo of Aeromobile, says: “To win a commitment from such an established Asian carrier as Thai is a major milestone for Aeromobile."


At the same time, Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus will launch AeroMobile’s inflight mobile connectivity on its long haul fleet from December. The system will be installed on the airline’s fleet of seven Airbus A330 aircraft. The AeroMobile system is branded eXPhone and will form part of Panasonic Avionics Corporation’s global Communication Suite which is being installed on the aircraft. It will operate over Ku-band which offers speeds of up to 50MB per second to the aircraft (the highest available today), enabling passengers consuming data to increasingly stay connected in the same way, and at the same speed, as they would on the ground.
