Schiphol award for Delta
Delta Air Lines has received the ‘Jan Dellaert award’ for its contribution towards strengthening Schiphol’s position as an international transfer airport.
Schiphol is Delta Air Lines’ biggest European hub and an important partner in SkyTeam. Specifically Delta’s trans-Atlantic connections are of great value for the mainport and the Netherlands.
In 2011, Delta Air Lines carried 2.4 million passengers via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This makes it the fourth-largest airline company at Schiphol in terms of passenger numbers, and the largest intercontinental non- Dutch airline at the airport.
Delta serves ten destinations from the airport of which nine are located in the United States. The award was presented by executive vp & coo of Schiphol Group, Ad Rutten. It is awarded to an organisation or person that has made an extraordinary contribution to the airline industry in the Netherlands and to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The award is named after ‘the founding father of Schiphol’, Jan Dellaert, the founder and first station chief. Finnair focuses on funny stories
Finnair’s cabin crew has published Airborne: Tales From A Thousand And One Flights, a collection of unusual or humorous stories from their travels around the world. Finnair specialises in fast connections between Europe and Asia via Helsinki. The airline carries more than eight million passengers annually and connects 11 cities in Asia with more than 50 destinations in Europe. Drawing on contemporary anecdotes as well as on decades of flight attendant history and lore, Airborne is a collection of true stories written by eight of its cabin crew. “There are innumerable stories about flying, and as it has become an increasingly popular mode of transportation, reaching further and further into all corners of the world, these stories have become increasingly vivid,” writes cabin crew member Riitta Kiiveri in the book’s foreword. Airborne, published by Atar, is also available in Finnish as Taivas mikä työpaikka! The profits from the book will be donated to the Finnish Central Association for Mental Health, to be used in the prevention of mental health issues among children and adolescents. BAC wins Turkish contract
Bangkok Air Catering (BAC) has been awarded the catering contract with Turkish Airlines at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok.
Recently named ‘Europe’s Best Airline’, Turkish Airlines flew its maiden flight into Bangkok out of Istanbul in July this year. The airline is scheduled to make 18 flights a week during the summer into Bangkok, and 21 flights a week over the winter. BAC’s kitchen is currently producing an average of 22,000 meals each day for its airline customers and in May this year the caterer opened its third restaurant in Bangkok. Called ‘Brasserie 9’ by Gourmet House, the stylish riverfront restaurant serves traditional French cuisine. BAC’s multinational chefs are also serving authentic Lebanese and Indian cuisine at the company’s Arabic ‘Al Saray’ restaurant in Bangkok.
