Japan Airlines revamps onboard offering


Japan Airlines (JAL) has revamped its inflight products and services on international routes. The JAL New Sky Project introduces a sweeping change to the seat designs in every cabin class onboard 13 of the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, deploying it first on the airline’s daily Narita-London (Heathrow) route from January 2013. This will then be rolled out progressively onto other European and North American routes.


The revamp brings significant improvements in spaciousness and functionality of the seats in all four classes and also extends amenities and comfort by adding TOTO Washlets in First and Business Class lavatories and providing innovative airweave mattress pads and pillows on request in Business Class.


New menus have been introduced onboard flights to Europe, North America, Australia and South East Asia to create the ambience of an exclusive restaurant in the sky.


The changes have been introduced following feedback from frequent travellers and award- winning Japanese author and screenwriter Kundo Koyama, who provided insights and opinions from a customer’s perspective. “JAL is now standing at a new beginning,” said Japan Airlines president Yoshiharu Ueki. “We hope to bring our customers a totally refreshing onboard experience like no other, with Welcome! New Business for Cathay Pacific


Cathay Pacific Airways is introducing its new Business cabin on its route between London Heathrow and Hong Kong on selected daily flights and on all of its four daily flights by early next year.


The new cabin design is the result of an intensive and iteractive design process involving input from the airline’s Marco Polo Club members to refine comfort, versatility and function.


The seat offers both privacy and openness, with a wing-back chair designed to maximise surrounding living space. The seats are angled to give passengers a good view through the windows and provide everything they need to control either their widescreen inflight entertainment system or the infinitely adjustable seat.


They also convert into one of the longest and widest beds provided on any commercial airline and includes a Bed Extension which deploys automatically as the seat transforms into a bed, increasing the bed’s width. The Retractable Armrest can be lowered to further increased sleeping space or raised to act as a privacy screen.


The new Business product has already been installed on all of Cathay Pacific’s new long haul A330-300 and Boeing 777-300ER deliveries. It is now being progressively installed on all existing long-haul A330-300s and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Servair signs deals out of Paris


French airline catering and logistics company, Servair, has won the tender to provide catering services United and has also renewed it partnership with Gulf Air out of Paris. United, which was formed as a result of the merger between United Airlines and Continental Airlines, has entrusted Servair with its catering services for flights departing from CDG, Paris. Starting in early 2013, Servair will provide catering services for the company’s four daily flights (two to New York, one to Chicago and one to Washington D.C.). Its contract with Gulf Air has been renewed for a further three-years. CPA, a halal-certified subsidiary of Servair, will provide aircraft catering services for nine daily flights to Bahrain from Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport. Servair has more than 60 sites, with its partners and subsidiaries, offering airlines a range of services to 120 customer companies. www.servair.fr
