Dupsy Abiola Founder, CEO, InternAvenue.com, 30


In late 2010, Dupsy, who was practising as a barrister, leſt the law to start her first large-scale entrepreneurial venture, InternAvenue.com, a professional hiring platform designed to connect the most talented students and graduates with employers. Dupsy has been shortlisted as one of 100 CEOs to watch in Europe and has been featured in the Financial Times and on Channel Four. In October 2012, she appeared on the BBC Hit show Dragon’s Denin a bid to sceure financial backing for her innovative hiring platform. She became the first ever recruitment business and solo black female entrepreneur to successfully pitch for investment in the show’s seven-year history when dragon Peter Jones agreed to invest £100,000 for a 30 per cent stake in her buisiness, as long as she hit certain targets. Dupsy is already a serial achiever and while she was at the bar she received a number of accolades, including the coveted Lord Denning and Eastham Scholarships awarded by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s inn. She completed pupillage in commercial common law chambers before going to work in-house at a respected City law firm specialising in technical litigation. She is a rare black female face in Europe’s tech scene.


Derren Lawford Head of Programming and Scheduling, Global BBC iPlayer, 37


With the technology-driven direction in which the world is rapidly moving, these days most of us watch some kind of TV content online. Derren’s role at BBC Worldwide is integral to driving this trend internationally. He is responsible for all the programme selections for the pilot of the Global BBC iPlayer, the company’s commercial VOD (Video on Demand) service, available in 16 international markets, on the iPad, iPhone and iPod. He is also in charge of scheduling strategy and content acquisition. Derren’s time at the BBC has seen him amass a wealth of multi-platform experience. Te Cambridge graduate’s career began at Te Voice newspaper in 1997, as a staff writer. Aſter joining BBC Radio 1 in 2000, he went on to become a founding member of BBC Radio 1Xtra, was later appointed to set up Panorama’s multi-platform team, and was a multi-platform executive producer at BBC Tree. He is also an editorial advisor for popular online youth channel SB.TV.


Anthony Joshua Boxer, 22


Te expression everybody deserves a second chance is perfectly illustrated by Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua’s story. Staring at a grim future last year aſter pleading guilty to drug dealing, the super-heavyweight 6ſt 6in boxer from Watford was facing jail. But the judge gave him a second chance. He duly repaid the faith shown in him by beating Italian Roberto Cammarelle to win Team GB’s 29th gold medal at the London Olympics. Anthony’s name will now be added to an illustrious list of Olympic heavyweight and super heavyweight champions that includes Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Lennox Lewis. Determined to be a role model, the young British Nigerian says his near-jail experience forced him to respect his responsibilities. An accomplished footballer and athlete – he can run the 100m in 11 seconds – Anthony began boxing only four years ago, and insists he is young enough to remain a part of the Team GB set-up and has set his sights on winning Olympic gold again in Brazil in 2016.


PShola Efunshile

For the past six years Shola Efunshile has worked for EADS Astrium, the leading Europe-wide space company. Shola is a member of the division responsible for building communications satellites, used for providing internet access, secure military communications and satellite TV. In 2012 she became payload engineering manager and transferred from her office in Portsmouth, England, to Toulouse in France, to lead the customisation team across both offices. Shola leads on the design of telecommunication payload satellites, which receives and redirects communications signals. She works to accomplish new satellite proposals, aiding new technical developments, spending much time communicating the advancements in her work to customers with a wide range of technical abilities, in French and English. Shola has a BSc in Physics and Astrophysics from the University of Birmingham and a MSc in Spacecraſt Technology and Satellite Communications.
