HO BRASS IN STOCK Very Limited Production - Factory Painted

John Terry is another familiar face at Collinsville and other prototype meets, and he brought along a pair of HO Conrail C-628’s. Both were similarly detailed and show the units near the end of their careers; the 6748 is a Stewart/Bowser loco with new handrails, Details West grabs, cut levers and SInclair antenna, and Detail Associates m.u. hoses. This is an example of his custom paint and lettering work (Polly Scale CR Blue, Microscale decals). The weathering is artists’ oil paint thinned with turpenoid, a volatile solvent (you are fore- warned—ventilate, ventilate, ventilate) and Dullcote from a can (John says it takes some practice to use it well) faded with rubbing alcohol. He had a photo to show what he worked from. His model of PC 229148 stopped me in my tracks! It is an X72 just like the one I had just purchased a photo of across the hall at the sales room of Bob’s Photo. (Bob’s Photo and specialized vendors like this are an important element of the prototype meets.) We needed another picture to go with Jered Slusser’s article in this issue (see pp. 57-63), and I was on a quest to find one. Quest granted. It is a one-dollar swap meet special redetailed, rebuilt, and re-trucked wearing Scalecoat II PC Green, Microscale decals and weathered. Since we are talking about Penn Central here, Jim Homoki’s PC RPO is at the

. The

last RPO’s in the U.S. looked like this on their New York-Washington, D.C., runs. The HO model is a repainted Walthers car done with ModelMaster RLM-83, a German military color. Jim did the lettering artwork; the window sashes are silver Microscale decal striping.
