Full-size paper templates for laying out roadbed
Planning, printing and cutting roadbed for a new layout/Bob Casebeer and Rob Sundberg I
n the winter of 2011, Rob’s Trains (
www.robstrains.com) in downtown Alliance, Ohio, suffered extensive smoke damage from a fire in a neigh- boring store. Destruction of the store’s contents was nearly total, including an operating HO layout. Six months later, after the damage was repaired and the contents of the store were replaced, the store reopened. Rob then asked me to draw up a track plan for a layout to re- place the one destroyed in the fire. Work had to proceed quickly for insur- ance purposes.
While Rob and I were reviewing the plans for the new layout, we tossed back and forth the idea that it would be great if we could print out the roadbed cutting templates I had drawn up on my computer to full size. We could just glue paper templates to the 4′-0″×8′-0″ sheets of plywood and cut out the pieces. We thought that with
