CYCLE CHARITY Wheels for Wellbeing has been thrown a funding lifeline for the next year by the Big Lottery Fund’s Supporting Change and Impact fund. “Finding just under £130,000 to keep going was an extremely difficult prospect,”

said WfW manager Isabelle Clement. “It was a very competitive process so we are delighted to be one of 217 groups chosen nationally. Now we have until May 2014, which gives us a fighting chance.” www.wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk

“It had sexual connotations and bore no relevance to the advertised product and that the text likened the aesthetic qualities of the woman to those of the product. The image was likely to cause serious offence to some readers of Cycling Plus.” The Advertising Standards Authority rules that Triuk’s ‘It all starts with great bodywork’ advert contravenes

the ASA’s code. In response, Triuk said the ad was not degrading or sexist, adding that the use of the female form in the industry is commonplace.

“City fathers have to choose. Cars or bicycles. And in Copenhagen they’ve

gone for the bike. In Copenhagen it’s just a pleasant way of getting about. Nobody wears a helmet. Nobody wears high-visibility clothing. You just wear what you need to be wearing at your destination. For girls that appears to be very short skirts. And nobody rides their bike as if they’re in the Tour de France. This would make them sweaty and unattractive, so they travel just fast enough to maintain their balance. “The upshot is a city that works. It’s pleasing to look at. It’s astonishingly quiet. It’s safe. And no one wastes half their life looking for a parking space. I’d live there in a heartbeat.” Jeremy Clarkson, writing in The Times

“I started out racing MTBs, so having fun on the trail is a core value at Seven and we’re always exploring possibilities of technologies new and old. 650b is an old standard and it is very cool to see it emerging in the market and bringing riders a new trail experience. “Several Seven employees are riding

650b for their everyday trail bike and have taken time to understand this wheel size’s unique characteristics in both geared and, more recently, single- speed set ups. These bikes give a very pure trail experience. There is a lot of stripped-down, old-school fun to be had on bikes like these.” Seven Cycles founder Rob Vandermark
