NIKE+ SPORTWATCH GPS

Ideal for the triathlon and running markets, Nike’s TomTom team-up packs a fair bit of kit into a slim-line watch. Offering GPS, the SportWatch measures time, pace and distance along with calories burned and heart rate (the latter available if the Polar WearLink transmitter is purchased). A clear, backlit screen provides statistics at a glance and even messages encouraging the user to have a run if they’ve been slacking off. Attractively packaged, the Nike+ Sportwatch GPS has a USB connector built into the watchstrap for the all- important upload of run data. When sent to a computer, the user can keep tabs on their training progress and upload to the nikeplus community. There’s also a new TomTom Rider in the works.

Primarily pitched at motorbikes, the waterproof navigation tool can also be used on the bicycle and features a touchscreen that can be operated while wearing gloves, set to retail circa £250. www.nike.com

You can fit a camping table and chairs in the recreational zone and the tent sleeps four to six persons. Despite packing power, the tent has a small pack size, boasts Eureka. www.eurekatent.com

The Woodland Trust and furniture retailer IKEA have questioned 2,000 parents, revealing one in five say they don’t spend time with their family in local woodland as they don’t know where to find it. A third say they don’t have any woodland near them to visit. Statistics from the Woodland Trust reveal that the UK is actually one of the least wooded countries, with a 13 per cent covering compared with the 44 per cent European average. The research is a prelude to highlighting the duo have been creating acres (309 in fact) of woodland since they started working together in 2007.
