ACT explains how it is working with the UK’s largest employer to help push cycling and independent bicycle dealers…
THE NATIONAL HEALTH Service (NHS) is the largest employer in the UK, with over 1.3million staff. As part of sustained push for a healthier, happier work force, cycling is being promoted to these employees as a solution. NHS employees are being galvanised via a
new, quarterly publication, Balance magazine, specifically designed for them with the focus on personal health and wellbeing. It aims to deliver help, advice, examples and inspiration for a healthy lifestyle to the 1.3million workforce. After investigating the current cycling to work
offerings and wanting to engage with leading brands and IBDs, Balance identified Ride it away retail finance. From May 7th, the ACT and Moneyway are working with Balance to encourage NHS staff throughout the UK to get cycling with a new bicycle purchased on retail finance.
The Ride it away retail finance scheme is
available via hundreds of independent cycle retailers throughout the UK, offering NHS employees the opportunity to purchase a new bike and accessories over an extended repayment basis with as little as nought per cent interest.
Moneyway lending director David Nield commented: “This is a major progression for retail finance companies who traditionally wait for customers to be introduced to them by the retailer. At Moneyway we recognise the tough retail trading environment and see this initiative as way to boost sales for our supporting retailers

by introducing new customers via the Ride it away scheme.” From May to July dealerships offering Ride it
away will be promoted to NHS staff via printed, online and iPhone magazines, regular internal emails and on The Cycling Experts website. The NHS not only offers IBDs a volume of new business, but just as importantly a predominance of female custom, who have historically not been active cyclists or regular customers of specialist retailers. The Cycling Experts will match up all NHS
employees with their local IBD (offering Ride it away) and the products and brands of choice. In order to participate dealers simply need to
enrol in the Ride it away retail finance programme available to all ACT members and we’ll do the rest. ACT supplier members are being encouraged
to advertise relevant product for this extensive audience free of charge via The Cycling Experts. Those Ride it away retailers who have already
enrolled in The Cycling Experts ‘Female Friendly’ programme, in partnership with British Cycling, will also benefit from enhanced exposure to this largely female audience. NHS employees will be able to search for bicycle brands in their nearest Ride it away retailers and calculate their ideal spend and repayment plan before they visit you. Those retailers who use Bikesoup also showcase product on their shop floor to NHS employees on their Cycling Experts profile.
