Lights, cameras, action!
Gadget Show Live Pro saw video camera brands face off for a slice of the cycle market. Jonathon Harker takes a look down the viewfinder to see what the ever popular NEC show had to offer the bike trade…
THE PRO PART of the Gadget Show Live day was the proverbial calm before the storm, the storm in this case being the 120,000 members of the public that flooded the event proper, from Wednesday to Sunday. So, before the hordes of technology-hungry
visitors got to stalk the halls of the NEC, the trade got to see the event unhindered and potentially do a bit of business into the bargain.
While not a traditionally central show for the cycle trade, the industry was represented in the form of electric bikes, navigation and cycle computers, lights, scooters and notably in the increasingly competitive sports video camera sector.

Video wars Picked up by Ultra Sport Europe last year, Contour (1) was touting its range at Gadget Show Live, including the entry level Roam. The full High Definition camera has a couple of key selling points, not least the fact it’s waterproof out of the box. The Roam also sports an easy on/off button so recording is pretty much instant and fuss free, ideal particularly for ‘evidential’ videoing of road incidents with motor traffic. The Roam features simple laser alignment so the user can check the direction they’ll be recording in, all the easier to adjust with Contour’s rotating lens. Moving up the range, Contour GPS features exactly what you’d expect, capturing
location, speed and elevation data and a handy interactive map so the user can rewind, fast forward or click to the best parts. Other key aspects of the range are the ultra small attachments and mounts for the Contour range. Ultra Sport also distributes Bern helmets, which are proving incredibly popular for the firm, they tell BikeBiz. (2) Veho’s launch of the No Proof, No Glory web site is part of its marketing strategy for 2012. The site, for which no less than Sam Pilgrim is creating exclusive edits, invites users to upload their own videos. At the end of the year there will be an award for the highest ranked. There’s also a dedicated Veho Muvi site on the way too. But why, you may ask, is
Greased lightning? No, it’s the e-bike test track
