Page 89 New Ironwood Socket Adapter for LG’s HDTV Chip

Eagan, MN — Ironwood Electronics has introduced a new high perform- ance socket, the SF-BGA656A-B- 64F, which allows 0.8mm pitch, 23 x 23mm body, 28 x 28 array LG XD Engine to be socketed and operate without compromising performance in demanding HDTV applications. XD engine is a technology used in LG HDTV to enhance picture quality. In addition to providing de-interlacing and up-scaling, XD Engine also pro- vides increased black levels and brightness of various aspects of the picture along with analog and MPEG noise reduction.

The Giga-snaP BGA socket

adapter pair consists of SF- BGA656A-B-64F, patented female BGA sockets with machined pins epoxy over molded into an assembly that matches the male pin LS- BGA656A-61 adapter. The RoHS- compliant SF-BGA656A-B-64F BGA

socket is soldered to a PCB using standard soldering methods without warping which results in a reliable connection to the PCB. Both BGA socket and adapter are constructed with high temperature FR-4 body assuring match with target PCB’s and preventing failures that occur due to CTE mismatch. The user attaches a target 656 ball (LG) BGA chip or other compatible chip onto the (male) LS-BGA656A-61 BGA adapter, which, is plugged into the female BGA socket on the board. The chip is interconnected and the sys- tem is ready to go. The BGA socket adapters have

Drive Barcelona, Spain — Ingenia Motion Control has released its VENUS digi- tal servo drive, an integrated motion controller and digital servo drive in a convenient standalone package. The package is capable of driving most motor topologies up to 2kW without the need for any additional heat sink- ing across its entire operating tem- perature range. The drive is suitable for the con-

trol of brushless DC, brushless AC, DC brushed, steppers and voice coil motors with build-in motion con- troller and high level motion lan- guage. It can control either rotary or linear motors.

the same solder ball types as the IC they are emulating. The Giga-snaP BGA socket adapters require half the force of conventional adapters at 20

pounds for the 656 pin device. The electrical path of the Giga-snaP BGA socket adapters is a high priority performance issue with the physical length from the top connection point on the male adapter to the solder ball on the female socket is 4.5mm. This is the shortest connection length by far for machined pin sockets, there- fore providing better transmission of high frequency signals. These adapters have passed environmental tests (MIL-STD) and qualified for HDTV applications. They are avail-

able in custom configurations. Contact: Ironwood Electronics,

Servo drive and motion controller.

The servo drive is capable of

operating in many modes including Profiled Torque, Profiled Velocity, Profiled Position, Interpolated Posi - tion, Cyclic Sync Position and Hom - ing. In addition, it contains a wide range of feedback and on-board I/O options. The drive can operate with a

wide choice of feedback devices sup- porting by default Incremental En - coder, Digital Halls, Analog Halls, Analog Input (Potentiometer), PWM sensor and DC-Tachometer. The Venus also includes RS-232 interface (with daisy-chain option) and CAN interface with CANopen protocol (CiA-301, 402 and 303) for configura- tion and distributed motion control functionality. It accepts a wide set of command reference sources and can also execute pre-stored programs from its non-volatile memory. The drive comes with a complete

set of software tools that helps user to configure, tune and operate motion systems quickly. This feature allows the drives to be used standalone for single-axis or distributed intelligence

motion control applications. Contact: INGENIA-CAT, S.L., C/
