May/June, 2012 Seratel: Counting Parts Still in the Feeder

Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland — Seratel has introduced a new version of its “Reel aMounts” component counting and labeling system, which provides excellent flexibility in reel counting. The Reel aMounts system has already allowed users to count component reels, including reels that are loaded in feeders, in just seconds. Now Version 7 of the system expands that capability. Reels that are loaded in twin-

track feeders (where one feeder serv- ices two reels) can now be counted with the same ease. For many makes of placement equipment, it is even possible to count reels loaded in feed- ers, while the feeders are still mount- ed in the pick-and-place machine. The new version of Reel

aMounts combines a patented combi- nation of hardware and software to achieve this. High volume producers in particular need to be able to count components without stripping down production lines. Counting reels that are still

loaded in the machine also removes the step of re-registering feeders, which might otherwise be necessary. The company has built on exist-

ing “Reel Magic” technology, which provides accurate weigh counting of component reels, making adjust- ments automatically for the empty leader and trailer tape on reels. This is essential for the task, as conven- tional algorithms without this tech- nology can give errors of up to 150 components on reels of 0201 or 0402

parts. Also based on patented technol-

ogy, Reel Magic matches the param- eters of the reel against an inbuilt database of reel and component types, derived from measurements of thousands of SMT components. This allows it to tune its counting algo- rithms to make the best possible adjustment for empty tape in calcu- lating the number of components on the reel. Reel aMounts provides high

speed counting for all tape-and-reel components, by linking a computer, electronic weighing scales, bar code scanner, bar code printer and a data- base of component types. The system allows companies to maintain accurate inventories, taking into account all

attrition, including handling losses. All information collected is

stored in a database, then provides both management statistics and detailed analysis of the data, includ- ing traceability down to the individ- ual reel. Information can also be for-

Teknek New Adhesive Roll Cleaner Now Oxydegradable

Inchinnan, Scotland — Teknek, a subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works Inc., recently introduced the world’s first Oxydegradable clean machine adhe- sive roll. The company has now phased out old stocks of adhesive film rolls and moved all future sup- plies to the environmentally friendly EcoFilm version.

cleaning process uses sheeted adhe- sive rolls to collect contamination. Once consumed these sheets have to be disposed of. After extensive research Teknek developed the first contact cleaning adhesive roll which is Oxydegradable. It retains all the benefits of the Teknek Nanocleen+ adhesive roll (silicone free, static dis- sipation, extra wide format, slant cut) with the added advantage of being “green”. Moreover, there is no price differential between the old and

new versions. Contact: Teknek, River Drive,
