May/June, 2012 Conformal Coatings from Lackwerke Peters
Kempen, Germany — Lackwerke Peters GmbH + Co KG is showing its wide variety of conformal coatings and solder photoresists. Fast drying at room temperature and easy to repair, with special adjustments for special tasks, the company’s Elpeguard® con- formal coatings of the series SL 1307 FLZ/2 are a good choice for most elec- tronics applications. These conformal coatings for
assembled printed circuit boards resist yellowing, and can be easily soldered-through or removed by product-specific thinner. The thixotropic version SL 1307 FLZ/3 ensures high climatic resistance with optimal edge coverage even on sharp- edged component leads.
The ultra-thixotropic adjust-
ment SL 1307 FLZ-T (also available in cartridges) can be easily and pre-
cisely applied by using a dispenser. This way, dams can be built around connectors, components and
pads to prevent the penetration or spreading of a conformal coating applied later (dam and fill). SL 1307 FLZ-S is available in
practical spray cans, making it read- ily available for service and repair work and for fast coating of pilot and low-volume products. Selective coating with the white
opaque conformal coating SL 1397 ensures maximum luminous efficacy: The LEDs are left uncoated while dark components are hidden, providing a boost to the perceived light output. Application of the black opaque,
Conformal coating leaves LED clear.
mat conformal coating SL 1347 ensures a strong contrast to the base material. With this material, it is possible to coat selected areas of assemblies (which are usually coated with green solder resist) in black to achieve a strong contrast of the LEDs to the non-reflective base material. This is of particular advan- tage in applications with emphasis on high optical quality, such as infor-
mation panels and traffic lights. Contact: Lackwerke Peters

Metal-Cased, Wand-Style Photodetectors
from Newport Irvine, CA — New from Newport are two new wand-style photodetectors, the 818-ST2 and 818-ST2-UV. The slender wand design is especially suit- able for detection and measurements in tight or confined spaces. A conven-

ient mounting provision makes the detectors easy to mount without the need for angle brackets. Both models incorporate a large 10 x 10mm silicon photodiode for optimum performance; they operate in the 100 to 1100nm range. Power levels are from pW to 2W. A built-in calibrated OD3 attenu- ator has an easily readable and acces- sible on/off indicator. The calibration module (DB15)
is detachable from the BNC connec- tor, permitting convenient interface with Newport’s power meters. The 818-ST2 and 818-ST2-UV are also compatible with oscilloscopes or cur-
rent meters. Contact: Newport Corporation,
