W
hen ardent birder Jasmin Myers was looking for a lifestyle destination, Dithõlõ Wildlife Estate in Limpopo
Province was a clear choice. Only two hours’ drive from Gauteng, in the heart of Limpopo’s natural bushveld, Dithõlõ offers an exceptional sanctuary for wildlife and birding enthusiasts.
Limpopo Province is renowned for its birdlife, thanks to the province’s extensive tracts of natural habitat and diverse biospheres, from montane grasslands to afro-temperate forests, bushveld and wetlands. Dithõlõ itself boasts over 250 species of birds, including rare species, such as the Black-Fronted
Bushshrike, Arnott’s Chatt, the Blue-Spotted Wood Dove, the Senegal Coucal and the Tropical Boubou.
The estate comprises of a number of biospheres covering all the bases of natural bushveld habitat. In addition, states Myers, the estate practices careful conservation of its waterways and wetlands which attract a wide range of bird species. For Myers, the attraction of owning a property at Dithõlõ is that it offers safe walking trails for bird lovers. On a recent visit to Dithõlõ, she spotted over 50 species during one weekend, an exciting score for any birder. The estate is also a great place to see woodland and bushveld favourites, such as the Short-Clawed Lark, Shelley’s Francolin, the Grey-Headed Parrot, the African Broadbill and the Crested Guineafowl, as well as the Cape Vulture.
Dithõlõ is a unique property development, set against the backdrop of the Waterberg Mountains and consisting of only sixty secure and fully serviced freehold residential stands of one hectare each. Each property enjoys complete seclusion, literally bringing the bush, and the birds, right up to one’s front stoep. Adjoining the residential area is the estate’s private nature reserve which has a progressive conservation and breeding programme and is home to buffalo and sable antelope, amongst many other species of wildlife.
Property experts note that the market is now
ideal for investment in lifestyle and leisure properties and there are substantial discounts to be had on properties of exceptional value.
