SECTOR GUIDE | FOLDING BIKES Small wheelers

If your customer is a commuter, short on space or just a folder fan, there’s a wealth of product available for cycle retailers. Jonathon Harker lists some of the latest options…

Brompton

BROMPTON’S FIRST new handlebar configuration in seven years – the H type – was revealed at the last Eurobike. Joining its M, S and P Types,

the H Type was developed following requests from taller riders and those requesting a more upright riding position. The height of the grips from the ground has been raised by 60mm compared to the classic M type. Forward reach to the grips from the saddle has increased by around 13mm.

The added height and reach has been

achieved by spacing the handlebar hinge 30mm further away from the headset. The hinge protrudes further than on other models because of the change, but the highest point on the folded bike remains the saddle – so H Types will fit into all existing transport bags and covers.

The weight increase over an M Type is

approximately 100g, dependent on the model, the firm says.

Fisher Outdoor Leisure

FISHER OUTDOOR Leisure’s own brand Kansi launched back in 2010 and we hear the line-up is being re- launched at the forthcoming Fisher Expo show at Sopwell House, St Albans, on February 20th- 22nd. Beyond that the firm is tight- lipped about the new revamped range. A spokesperson for the

distributor comments: “As well as the opportunity to talk about the improvements we have made to the bikes and quality control processes there will also be a chance to see how your business can benefit from

becoming a stockist and our plans for the year ahead.” Contact: 01727 798 340

Dahon Brompton’s new Mini O Bag also

launched towards the end of last year. The bag is the second product from its cooperation with Ortlieb, which was launched last year. Like the O Bag, the Mini O – which is significantly smaller than the rest of Brompton’s luggage range – is designed for Brompton’s front carrier system. Foam inserts, available separately from Ortlieb, turn the Mini O into a tailored camera bag, which can also be used for sunglasses, wallets, etc. Contact: 020 8232 8484

DAHON’S BROAD range of well established folding bikes includes the Vector x27. Replacing the Speed Pro TT, the Vector X27h is stronger, stiffer, and faster, says Dahon. The folding road bike is designed for serious cyclists who want a portable training bike that they can take anywhere in the world. The patented hydroformed frame, with larger diameter tubing and a substantially taller hinge in order to increase frame strength. The Vector x27 also sports a high gear range courtesy of a SRAM/Shimano drive train, delivering the hill climbing gears of a mountain bike and the big ring gears of a road bike: 28” – 121”. It also features the Dahon Special Edition Schwalbe Durano tyres. At the other end of the

spectrum, Dahon’s Eco C7 is pitched at the entry level folding bike market. It features a sturdy

aluminum frame, Shimano drive train, and durable components. Dahon prides its range on quick folding and naturally the same is true of the Eco C7, taking a mere 15 seconds to fold. Last year the bike was upgraded with a Radius V handlepost and Fusion integrated fork. Dahon is available to the trade

through Raleigh. Contact: 0800 096 9060
