ACTSMART | AT THE SHOWS

We’ve got a problem… …is iceBike*the solution? Although the ACT is the largest UK cycle trade organisation with over 1,900

retailer and supplier members – and with recognition as a progressive trade organisation – the association has been struggling to get its message across to dealers, admits the ACT…

OVER THE past several years ACT’s offering to cycle retailers and their supply partners has grown exponentially, beyond core savings into sales tools, national promotion and recognised retail initiatives, all focused on developing bicycle business sales, profitability and resource savings too. During the same period the cost of

membership has stood still. In fact, the cost of ACT membership hasn’t changed for over six years. What’s more, via the Association of Cycle Trader’s partnership with ActSmart, we now offer a growing range of services and promotion to businesses free of charge. If membership and benefits are growing

what’s the problem? Not enough businesses are taking advantage of all that is on offer to them. Cycle businesses are so busy that they are missing out on benefits that are readily available to them. Although everything is published and

accessible online, face-to-face interaction is the best method to get our full offering across. However, a sales force isn’t viable if we want to keep membership costs low.

SO WHAT TO DO? Every business that visits Madison’s iceBike* event will be offered a free ACT Surgery to discuss how they can make more of their membership, even if they are Bronze free-of- charge members.

48 BIKEBIZ FEBRUARY

The Surgeries will cover everything – new, old and forthcoming – to do with ACT membership, for example WorkRiders, the new online cycling to work programme that showcased to a great reception at the London Bike Show. It is retailer, employer and employee-friendly and ACT retailers pay no administration fees. Come and talk to Ben Pinnick, who created WorkRiders, and find out how and why cycling to work is being reborn. Experts Gift Cards are launching at iceBike*

too. They’re an exclusive in-store gift card solution available to all members, including Bronze, guaranteed to increase sales and customer retention. Ride It Away, the cycle trade retail finance

solution, will also be covered at iceBike*. It helped boost cycle sales by over 30 per cent in participating stores in the second half of 2011. Cytech, bicycle industry training and

accreditation scheme for cycle mechanics, now offers an online entry level qualification (50 per cent off at iceBike*) and launches its retail training programme at the show. ATG Training will also be on hand to talk about their Cytech training courses, apprenticeships and to answer any technical queries. Want more? We’ve got plenty more to talk

about. So visit the Association of Cycle Traders stand and spend just ten minutes of your iceBike* visit talking through how we can help your business.
