Green lights for Blythewood

Blythewood Plant Hire has purchased a fleet of VB9 lighting towers from TowerLight UK. The machines will be distributed across all four of the hirer’s depots in Welwyn, Stevenage, Peterborough and Warrington. Operations Director, David Hazell, said, “We chose the VB9

principally because of its green credentials and its light coverage. Our clients are calling for products that help them save fuel and reduce their overall costs, whilst helping to benefit the wider environment, in terms of cleaner emissions and quieter operation.” The VB9 incorporates a 170-litre capacity fuel tank with a claimed running time between refuelling of 340 hours. TowerLight, which will promote the VB9 on its stand at the Executive Hire Show, says a site manager will typically need to arrange refuelling only once a month, resulting in operators having to drive to site less frequently.

AFI raises security

AFI-Uplift has introduced Key Zone, a keypad designed as a cost-effective method of preventing unauthorised use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). The stand-alone unit locks and unlocks the machine’s upper control functions and is available as a pre-fitted option on all machines in the hirer’s fleet.

While traditional keypads have four digits, the new device can accept eight digit password codes, allowing for 100 million combinations. Operators do not have to share codes because the unit can be set up to take individual data for up to 200 users. The initiative is the latest addition to AFI’s Work Zone range of safety accessories. The company, which will be exhibiting at the Executive Hire Show, recently launched Sanctuary Zone, a device that prevents the MEWP operator being crushed against overhead obstructions, and the Smart Zone card reader system, which controls access to machines whilst also monitoring operator competence and providing live information via GPRS.

“OK

it’s a compact size, but there’s no compromise on lift height“
