EXECUTIVE NEWS
THIRD DEPOT FOR THE HIREMAN
The Hireman, the London-based hirer that has depots in the Old Kent Road (pictured) and White City, plans to open a third branch in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, to the north east of the capital. The company, which was profiled in our July/August issue, conducted an on-line poll over several months, asking customers to select their preferred location from four suggestions near the M25, with the Waltham Forest area emerging as the clear winner with 42% of the votes. “We value our customers’ opinions and we wanted to ensure we
offer them what they need, where they need it,” MD Neil Graham told EHN. “We want to move quickly on this now, and we have already identified a suitable site in Leyton, which we would expect to have ready to open by April. From this location we would be able to cover
more of north and north east London, and up the M11 into Essex and beyond.”
Over Christmas, The Hireman also re-located its Bermondsey head
office to new premises in Abbey Street, very close to its former Tanner Street location, giving more flexible space. “We are really positive about 2012. Our customers report that they
are busy, with good order books, and they are ready to do business with us. I am also looking forward to attending the Executive Hire Show, which will enable me to see many of our key suppliers, such as ArcGen Hilta, Bosch, Brendon Powerwashers, Euro Towers, Hilti and Makita, together with many others from all over the country, and the exhibition will help set our agenda for the coming year.”
Hire Network Award shortlist finalised Jovic increases Yanmar mini fleet
Jovic Plant, which has depots in Chelmsford and Basildon, recently added two more Yanmar mini excavators from Ammann Equipment to its fleet. The 5 tonne zero tail swing ViO50 Universal and 8 tonne ViO80 Universal machines join the hirer’s existing line-up that comprises minis ranging from the SV08-1 micro machine upwards. “The ViO80 Universal in particular is a very well built machine and has a decently sized cab for a zero tail swing mini,” said Director Peter Goudie, “and this latest purchase brings our fleet of Yanmar machines to 26.” The ViO80 Universal has a Yanmar engine with auto-idle and an ‘eco-mode’ for increased fuel economy when undertaking less arduous digging tasks. The ViO50 Universal incorporates a longer, straighter boom to give an increased load-over height, and has sprung ram guards on all cylinders, plus a refuelling pump, as well as a larger cab.
The Kendal depot of Hartley Hire and the Slough branch of Already Hire have been announced as the remaining finalists for The Hire Network Award. They join the Cleveleys depot of Smiths Equipment Hire, which, as we reported in our last issue, has also been nominated. The Award recognises outstanding service at an individual hire location. “We have been working with Already Hire for several years, and the Slough depot maintains consistently high standards of excellence,” Barry Dean, MD of The Hire Network, told EHN. “Similarly, we have been placing an increasing amount of business in the north west of England recently, and both Hartley Hire’s Kendal branch and Smiths’ Cleveleys outlet always give good service and are thoroughly reliable.” The winner of the Award will be announced at the Executive Hire Show.
SLD adds SDMO generators
Specialist hirer, SLD Pumps & Power, has added generators from SDMO’s Rental Compact line-up to its fleet. The company has bought sets ranging from 30 to 100kVA, each of which has a controller that monitors oil pressure, coolant temperature, failure to start, over-speed charging alternator faults and low fuel level. The machines are designed for low levels of noise and emissions. Grant McIntosh of SLD said, “SDMO has been
an approved generator supplier of ours since 2007. We invested several million pounds in our rental fleet with the company during 2008/09, purchasing sets up to 500kVA. We have given feedback to them on the machines, and some of our suggestions have been incorporated in the latest models.” SDMO will be exhibiting Rental Compact units at next month’s Executive Hire Show.
