INDUSTRY LEGENDS HONOURED AT EHN 40TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY
To celebrate EHN’s recent 40th Anniversary issue, we invited a glittering array of hirers and suppliers, and other industry leading lights, to a Race Day at Warwick Races on 16 November. Having taken over the main restaurant at the course, we lavishly wined and dined our 100 guests. With the support of our race day sponsors - Speedy, Brandon, Ricoh Arena and our magazine printers, Stephens & George - we sponsored most of the races on the card and, as our photo shows, even sponsored the last fence to remind all guests of the up-coming Executive Hire Show.
In making his customary, short and concise presentation, Publisher Robert Aplin commented, “my personal highlight from the time when we jointly bought Hire News in January 1993 and re-branded the magazine Executive Hire News, was to have witnessed, at first hand, how two industry legends fought a titanic battle over a 10 year period for market
leadership of our
tool hire industry. The one to retain its long held and much coveted position by opening 20 or more new greenfield branches each year, and the other to wrestle it from him by setting out on a massive acquisition spree, which resulted in him buying up hundreds of independent outlets year after year.” In recognition of their roles as Hire Industry Legends, Robert Aplin
presented former HSS MD Lister Fielding (right, if you’re too young to remember him) and Speedy founder John Brown with stunningly expensive bronze cast race horse figurines mounted on piano finish mahogany bases.
• Having pledged 10% of advertisement revenue in our 40th anniversary issue, to Friends of Bristol Eye Hospital, a number of our
guests at our Warwick Party also dug deep into their pockets to help our fundraising and we are delighted to have donated a total of £7,300 to our chosen charity.
