munition were employed in those tests. Finally, the testing moved on to the 22 LR barrel, and again six types of ammu- nition were used. In testing each caliber, three fi ve-shot groups at 50 yards were obtained with each type of ammunition. The results of these tests are compiled in the accompanying table on page 94. The data shown in the table reveal
that the CZ 455 is capable of very good accuracy. In no case do the data show the type of gilt-edge performance that a serious rimfi re shooter would expect from a top fl ight sporter or target rifl e. However, the accuracy demonstrated by the CZ 455 is certainly suffi cient to make it a very effective pest and small game rifl e. There was a time when we

would have been delighted with the accuracy shown by the CZ 455, but we suspect that the rifl e is capable of better accuracy. When a barrel is free fl oating, bedding of the action becomes critical, as is the tension on the stock screws. Doing some tweaking of these characteristics could improve accuracy. One reassuring aspect of all this is that there is no indication of barrel fl opping or movement. The barrels are held in a very rigid manner. From our viewpoint, we do not see
ourselves changing barrels frequently. What we do see is mounting the 22 LR barrel for fall small game hunting for several months, then confi guring the rifl e with either the 17 HMR or 22
WMR barrel in the spring for varmint hunting. In that way, the hunter can use the same rifl e with which he or she is familiar in different calibers during different seasons. One plan would be to utilize different scopes with each barrel so when the barrel swap is made, changing scopes gives a rifl e that is im- mediately very close to being sighted in. A few sighting shots with the ammo to be used is all that would be required to be ready to hunt. The CZ 455 in 22 caliber has an
WESTERN EDGE
MSRP of $396 while the 17 HMR and 22 WMR single caliber versions are each priced at $417. The switch barrel set consisting of 22 LR and 17 HMR barrels is priced at $531. Considering the prices of comparable bolt action sporting rimfi res, the CZ 455 is very reasonably priced and has the added versatility of being converted from one caliber to another. Moreover, the CZ 455 delivers excellent accuracy combined with classic appearance. The fi ne rifl es in the 455 series represent solid value for rimfi re enthusiasts.
