Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel discussed the successes and ongoing battles of his first 100 days in office at the Water Tower Campus on August 17. Part of the Better Government Association’s LiveStream at Lunchtime series, the conversation covered taxes, privatization of city services, lengthening the school day, and more. The interview took place in the School of Communication’s convergence studio at 51 E. Pearson St.

Honoring those lost on 9/11/01 On the night of September 11,
the Loyola community gathered in the East Quad to light vigil candles to honor those lost 10 years before. Part of the University’s Looking Back, Looking Forward events, the vigil featured music, prayers from various faith traditions, reflections, and remarks by Father Garanzini.
In Maywood, two pillar candles
representing lives lost were placed in the atrium of Stritch School of Medicine. Loyolans placed prayers and reflections at the base of the pillars. On September 12, The candles were lighted, followed by a reading, tolling of bells, and a mo- ment of silence. In Rome, a prayer vigil was held in the JFRC courtyard. The ceremony included scriptural readings and a solemn tolling of bells. A memorial Mass followed.
