Class notes 1950s


Hugh B. Fox (BA’ 54, MA ’55) recently released Through a Glass Darkly, a collection of 22 of his short stories. Mr. Fox has also been pub- lished in numerous literary maga- zines, and he was the first writer to publish a critical study of American poet, novelist, and short story writer Charles Bukowski.


Moonyeen Brown Albrecht’s (MUND ’57) The Sacred Music of Moonyeen Albrecht was featured in Steven Egler’s annual Faculty Recital on September 18, 2011, at the Staples Family Concert Hall at Central Michi- gan University. The recital featured the organ and choral music of Dr. Albrecht, CMU Emerita Professor of Theory and Composition, and was a celebration of her 75th year. Per- forming with Dr. Egler was the Exul- tate Deo Choir under the direction of Robert Sabourin, flute soloist Robert Hart of Midland, and a CMU faculty and student brass ensemble also performed. Compositions included music commissioned by Steven Egler—Variations on Engelberg for Organ (1998) and Four Psalms for Flute and Organ (1986); and the premier of Dr. Albrecht’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis for choir and organ.

still active, as he conducted school board training for the 20th time in May 2011 for Intermediate Service Center #4, South Cook. Smith also conducted the 33rd Orland Park Open Spelling Bee in 2011, and he led his church’s 20th fall family weekend in Saugatuck, Michigan, in September 2011. He is also chair- man of his Calumet High School 65th reunion.


School of Nursing reunion


Members of the School of Nursing Class of 1966 visited the Lake Shore Campus on September 13 for lunch with Dean Vicki Keough. After lunch, the class was treated to a campus tour by a School of Nursing student.


Robert Calsyn (BS ’68) has recently published his first novel, Primal Man.


Arthur R. Colaianni (BA ’69) released his latest historical fiction novel, The Stone Cutter Genius. The story takes place in Chicago, and Loyola University Chicago features in the plot.


Hugh E. LeVoy (BS ’67, MEd ’76) published a book, Chicago Kid, From Whence I Came, in April 2011.


Christopher Abbinante (BA ’72), formerly the president of Eastern Operations for Fidelity National Title Group, Inc., has been named president of the American Land


Title Association for the 2011-2012 year. Mr. Abbinante, who has been working in the title industry for over 35 years, “started in the land title industry in 1975, working for a law firm in Chicago that also had a small title agency. In 1976, he joined Chi- cago Title, serving in many different capacities. In 2001, Chicago Title became part of the Fidelity National Financial Family of Title Companies. Abbinante now focuses on Fidelity’s Canadian operations as well as with U.S.-based operations located primarily in the eastern and central parts of the country.” Mr. Abbinante holds a JD and an LLM from the John Marshall Law School and an MBA from the University of Chicago.


Willam D. Smith (EDD ’72) retired in 1990 after 31 years as superinten- dent of schools in Alsip, Ilinois. He is


Timothy R. Adams (BS ’73, MSIR ’77), who is retired from Metra Commuter Railroad, with his family in 2011 served as a volunteer excavator for the third year at Vindolanda, a 2nd century Roman Fort near Hadrian’s Wall in the UK. They also spent two weeks measur- ing, photographing and writing technical descriptions of ancient food preparation areas in Pompeii, Italy, as members of the Pompeii Food and Drink Project. They plan to return to both in 2012.


Alan Rosen (JD ’73), former Chief Deputy to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, has returned to the private practice of law. He will serve as a mediator, arbitrator, and neutral evaluator and will represent parties involved in complex com- mercial litigation, class actions, and government law matters.


Thomas L. McKiernan (MD ’74-75) professor of medicine in cardiology at Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medi- cine, director of Loyola’s Cardiac Care Unit, and medical director of the Center for Heart and Vascular Medicine, was appointed by Presi- dent Barack Obama as a member of the board of visitors to the United States Air Force Academy, of which he is an alumnus.
