Linda Howe (MUND ’76) released her second book, Healing Through the Akashic Records: Using the Power of Your Sacred Wounds to Discover Your Soul’s Perfection. Linda’s first book, How To Read the Akashic Records, won the 2010 Coalition of Visionary Resources (COVR) Award for Best Spirituality/Alternative Science and Spirituality Book and is currently available in French, Dutch, Russian, Spanish, and Hungarian. The new book, Healing Through the Akashic Records, is now available in Russian.
Simon P. Petravick (NILES ’77) received the 2011 Outstanding Edu- cator Award from the Illinois CPA Society. Dr. Petravick is a professor at Bradley University for undergrad- uate and graduate students.
John S. Beutlich (BS ’79), director of the Northern Region, Office of Air & Marine, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, recently participated in a meeting of the Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Com- munications. He discussed “the work of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.”
Susan Breakwell (BSN ’79) is an associate clinical professor of nurs- ing at Marquette University College of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She will also serve as director of the College of Nursing’s Institute for End of Life Care Education.
Rosemary Larson (MUND ’79) re- tired as Midwest major gifts officer for Heifer International. Ms. Larson was the student editor of the school paper and became Munde- lein’s alumni director from 1980 to 1984. She was later involved in fun- draising for Marillac High School, St. Ignatius College Prep, and St. Vincent DePaul Center in Chicago over the course of her career.

Steven H. Lavin (JD ’80), co- founder and president of the law firm Lavin & Waldon, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Bank Leumi USA. He has served as a member of the bank’s board for the past six years.
Charles J. Hagopian Jr. (BBA ’81) was named director of intergov- ernmental affairs for Illinois State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka.
Karan M. Hinman Powell (MDIV ’81), senior VP and academ- ic dean for the American Public University System, was appointed as the school system’s new provost.
Owen M. Zidar (MBA ’81) will con- tinue his role as vice president of sales and marketing for Kansas City Southern, a transportation holding company. He will now focus on national account development for the company.
Lynette Hamlin, PhD (BSN ’82, MSN ’87), dean of the Mary Black School of Nursing at the University of South Carolina Upstate, was invited to serve on the Elsevier Nursing Advisory Council. Elsevier is the “world’s leading nursing publisher of science and health information.” Dr. Hamlin “has been with USC Upstate since fall 2010. Prior to coming to USC Upstate, she served as the chair of the Depart- ment of Nursing at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire. She earned her PhD from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. She is also a certified nurse midwife.”

James F. Haworth (BBA ’84), for- mer head of marketing and strategy for Philips Professional Luminaries North America, has been named chief executive officer for Lighting Science Group, a “leading American maker of LED-based lighting.” Mr. Haworth is a CPA and holds an MBA from J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern University.
Ted Mandigo, CPA (MBA ’84), assistant professor at the Kend- all College School of Hospitality Management, presented a session,
“Missed Opportunities in Hotel Food and Beverage Operations,” at the International Hotel, Motel & Restaurant Show (IHMRS) in November 2011. Professor Mandigo “is past president of the Illinois CPA Society, past member of the na- tional council of the American Insti- tute of CPAs (AICPA), and helped to found the International Society of Hospitality Consultants. With over 30 years of consulting experience, he is frequently quoted in local and national publications regarding the local market and the state of the industry in general. During his career, Mr. Mandigo has conducted more than 1,000 market feasibility studies and consulting analyses for the hospitality industry, as well as numerous national and interna- tional programs and seminars.” This presentation was his first ad- dress for IHMRS attendees.
