As a key element of Network Rail’s strategy for delivering a railway fi t for the 21st century, The Quadrant:MK will be the organisation’s fl agship national centre. O
n track to be completed in summer 2012, The Quadrant:MK is currently under construction at a site a few minutes walk from Milton Keynes railway station. This state-of-the-art
building will act as Network Rail’s central hub for the business, and consists of four linked buildings that will accommodate around 3,000 staff.
Station to station After deciding to create a new national centre by bringing teams from across the country together to work in a single location, Network Rail chose the site of the former National Hockey Stadium in Central Milton Keynes as the right place for their people. As part of its overall strategic objective to improve service and effi ciency, The Quadrant:MK will save the organisation millions of pounds a year in offi ce space rent, and its staff will be
able to support the new devolved route teams, including those in Glasgow, Swindon, York and Birmingham. The Quadrant:MK will also converge key administrative activities – including fi nance, property, asset management and planning. Network Rail’s chief executive, David Higgins, comments: ‘Bringing so many of our people together in Milton Keynes makes sense, not just in terms of effi ciency savings but also because of the improved service we will be able to offer train operators and their passengers. This impressive structure is at the heart of our plans to improve the way we work, so we can continue to deliver a world class railway.’ The name of the building was chosen as a result of
an in-house competition that received an overwhelming response. Employees, many of whom are either based in Milton Keynes already or will be moving to the city
