News MERGER CREATES THE LIGHTING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION


FOLLOWING A PERIOD of consultation with their members, both the Lighting Association (LA) and Lighting Industry Federation (LIF) have


held extraordinary general meetings where members of the organisations voted to merge.


It is expected that the new organisation, to be


known as The Lighting Industry Association, will be incorporated early in 2012. Rune Marki, LIF president, said: ‘The merging of operations of

SummitSkills has recognised the talent and exceptional standards of work of employees in the building services engineering sector at its annual Awards for Excellence.


The awards included Joe Ogle as Heating and Ventilating Operative of the Year, Adrian Canning as Electrotechnical Operative of the Year, Ian Hall- Edwards as Experienced Existing


Worker of the Year (Electrical) and Lee Summer as the winner of the Environmental Excellence Award. The awards were presented by representatives from a range of organisations, including Ian Pattle, senior vice-president at the APHC; Diane Johnson, immediate past president and skills ambassador at the ECA; and Sarah Wicks, head of education and training at the HVCA.


Keith Marshall, chief


executive at SummitSkills, said: ‘Circumstances continue to be challenging for the sector, and we were thrilled to be able to recognise these professionals for their contribution to this industry. Our determination to recognise


and celebrate excellence is fundamental to us, and as a sector we must continue to do so into the future.’


LIF and LA into one new expanded association will be benefi cial to the members and the market generally.’ LA president, Jonathan Lucas, added: ‘A great deal


of work has gone into the proposal to merge during the course of this year, and I am delighted that the members have voted in favour.’


EEIBA APPOINTMENT

Electronics Industries


Benevolent Association (EEIBA) has announced the appointment of Claire Beresford as its new corporate fundraising manager.


Beresford’s role will be to develop, review and design fundraising opportunities for the charity. Prior to this role, she was


an event coordinator within the health sector. She said: ‘The EEIBA does some fantastic work and continued funding and support from the industry and colleagues is critical for its future development. ‘Coming from a large


family, and one with a strong background in the electrical and contracting industry, it’s great to be able to give something back.’
