What have you been up to? Just DJing really and finishing off my album.
Cool. What gigs have you been doing? The last gig I did, ‘cause I’ve been off for two weeks, was Field Day... I recently played at Cardiff as well. And Benicassim in Spain; that was really cool.
How’s it going with your record label, Kicks and Snares? Yeah, really good. I mean, it’s pick- ing up. Just trying to find the right tracks that fit my label so I can keep it going, keep it afloat and bring in new artists.
Are you keeping them with your style, that funky, house-y, bass-y style? Yeah, well, between that and house and sort of anything that fits in with what I play really. Just, like, bass...
What artists have you got on the label? Anyone we know? Well my friend J:Kenzo is actually gonna be releasing stuff on Tempa really soon. We’ve had Scuba from Berlin...
so it is sure to live up to what is about to descend upon it. Hospitality will be bringing their own custom sound system so prepare for some serious bass.
Hospitality has sold out every time and with early bird tickets already snapped up this promises to do the same so get your tickets and get dancing. For tickets go to

ARTIST OF THE MONTH Synkro
We had a little chat with one of the hottest guys on the Rinse label right now to find out about his upcoming tour of america with Toddla T and preparations for his new album
know?
You used to be an MC. How did the transition to producer, re- cord label owner and DJ start? Well, I’ve always been making music. I’ve always made music as a hobby since ‘99 and I was MCing at the same time. I stopped MCing in about 2004/2005 and then I just carried on making music.
How would you say your music
What’s it like being involved with the Rinse family? Yeah, it’s all good. I’ve been on Rinse since 2008 and I’ve been signed to Rinse since 2009. It’s definitely helped me to become what I am today. They really know how to host a party; they have the promotion on lock.
You did a collaboration with “The stuff I did with Toddla T
was literally just about putting the fun back into music!”
has changed? I’ve just started doing more song- based stuff and more structured stuff, rather than just stuff that revolves around bass. More longevity than just instrumentals; that’s sort of been the main thing. That’s what I’ve been doing in the past year, really. I’m just improving my sound and trying to get more understanding of what I’m doing, ‘cause when I first started I was just doing a lot of, like, rollers and stuff. Now it’s all about just focus- ing and improving my sound, and just making it better.
Toddla T recently. What was it like to work with him? Yeah, it was really good, it was really cool. We should be doing some more stuff at the end of the year as well. We’re going on tour in America in December.
So is there more to come with you and him? Just more good music! More good music and more fun. The stuff I did with Toddla T was literally just about putting the fun back into music ‘cause there seem to be a lot of weirdos about now, you
So what’s next, apart from your American tour? My second album should be ready, hopefully, by the end of the year. We still need to sort out the last little bits and select the tracks.
If you could fill a swimming pool with anything, what would it be? I’d fill it with Vimto! (VIMTO?!)
If you were stuck on a desert is- land, what three famous people would you take with you? They can be dead or alive. Three famous people... I’d take Bob Marley for the music. I’d take Halle Berry, for the, er, you know...
Yeah. For the ‘company’. And I’d probably take Ainsley Har- riott, for the food.

Feel your feet move in time as your ears fall into line... Cheesy? Don’t cringe yet. Words on a page never convey that sensation of complete musical hypnosis and we know, we know, reader, that you’ve been to one of those nights. Beneath the discographies, release dates, words and facts, the only thing we truly live for is the vibe, and Synkro delivers. The ambient/dub/electronic producer with his dubstep/2-
step output infuses ricochet- ing rhythms with compelling bass riffs that somehow summon memories of lapping waves, Desperados and that twilight hour still being 25 degrees. If this is all a bit mysterious check
