GLASGOW

Every month we give you the scoop on one of our favourite UK cities!

The Guestlist Network find out what makes Scotland’s biggest city one of the coolest clubbing hot spots in the country. With a population of just over one million, Glasgow doesn’t have the huge musical scope of bigger cities like London. However, Glaswegians love their music and take it very seriously; there’s a real scene emerging with more and more promoters and DJs flocking to the capital to get a piece of it. For the last decade there were typically only a couple of clubs to go to, and illegal raves were popular but held mostly outside the city. Now, locals and visitors can experience great music in great venues, all the time.

VENUES IN GLASGOW

It might not have the diversity of a London night but Glasgow’s cheaper clubs and quirky bars guarantee a wicked time, if you know where to go...

SUB CLUB Underground DJs 1 KARBON Student Nights Live Acts

If you like nice clubs, chart music and cheap drinks then this is the club for you! Tuesday nights is their student night and all drinks are £1.50, something you’d struggle to find in London. The three rooms offer a healthy array of music including house, RnB, hip-hop and indie.

Stereo is a tiny venue with a lot to offer, straddling the line between bar, restaurant and live music venue with ease. Its proximity to central Glasgow means it offers a quiet break from the more intense dance nights it is surrounded by. Bands such as Warpaint have played intimate gigs here...

Sub Club started out as a posh kids hang out in the early ‘80s but it was still one of the only places you could find dance music in the city. It was recently voted 10th Best Club in the World by Resident Advisor, which says a lot in itself, but this has not made the club complacent. They’re putting on better nights in 2011 than ever before with huge DJs like Art Department and Maya Jane Coles, and the club’s resident night ‘Numbers’ draws in huge names like James Blake and Floating Points.
