hat we are seeing now is nothing new. Twenty years ago digital printing arrived and received the normal response from businesses afraid
The quality was poor; the machines expensive and unreliable. But digital printing did not disappear; it got better and better and now accounts for more than 50% of the printed paper and board worldwide.
Direct to Garment printing had a similar start – a fantastic idea brought to market a little prematurely in the USA; hated by many it was dismissed as unlikely that printing ink directly onto a T shirt with no setup cost would ever work. Machines were slow, expensive, unreliable and the results not great. But, certain technology has such potential the development goes on and on and on, and it did. With many yearsʼ experience in inkjet technology and having been at the forefront of the digital revolution in printing, Colin Marsh set up Resolute Ink to combat some of the main issues associated with direct to garment printing. The company has grown in two years from a small bespoke ink supplier to an equipment and ink development company, respected for its expertise across Europe.
White ink
When, three years ago the DTG market split two ways, some tried to modify equipment to combat the unstable performance of the existing white ink needed to print onto a dark shirt. Resolute Ink, on the other hand, developed a new white ink that did not need special care and could be used in most direct to garment printers without an extra management system just for the white ink.
Seen as a very important step in the DTG world, people stopped being put off by DTG as a process; it changed the bind of having to print daily or leave your printer switched on constantly. Resoluteʼs own printer, the R-Jet 4, can be switched off for up to two weeks with no special preparation and on your
Low impact
In years to come DTG will take a greater hold on the market share of textile printing. From T shirts to reels of fabric the potential is massive for any company investing in the technology. DTG printing also has a very low impact on the environment. With water based inks and no nasty solvents used for cleaning, health and safety concerns are minimal. The printed garments contain no PVC or plastics making it an obvious choice where safety is a concern such as with childrenʼs clothing.
With these points covered Resolute Ink went on to change the way people purchased DTG printers. When they told people they were going to charge people to train to print before they purchased a printer, the industry smiled a wry smile! Resolute Ink opened its training school nearly a year ago and has not looked back since. With a 100% success rate of turning delegates into R-jet 4 owners, their honest opinion and no sales patter put people at ease with the technology and helped them to understand DTG as a whole process.
The training fee is deducted from the cost of the printer making the cost to learn to print properly zero. With delegates from the UK and Ireland as well as the latest European visitors from Spain and Romania, Resoluteʼs policy of honesty extends so far as to tell you if they donʼt think DTG is suited to your business. Resolute Ink are quite flattered that many have followed their strategy; new training facilities and showrooms seem to be popping up all over the country now. They have even had people claiming to work for them and claiming to sell Resolute Inkʼs products under a different name.
Developments
Research and Development is a very serious part of Resoluteʼs diary. With two new R-Jet models in development and constant developments in ink there is little time for any of the Resolute team to sit back and enjoy the great things that have been achieved in a relatively short space of time.
They plan to continue developing and making changes in the DTG sector. Existing equipment and ink is used by some of the top drop shipping web companies in Europe with multiple machine installations printing hundreds of shirts daily. If there is a way to improve the DTG process and save customers money and time, you can be certain Resolute Ink will find it. ■ For more information call 01246 202686; email

RESOLUTE INK
Direct to Garment printing has come a long way in the past two years, opening up new avenues for businesses large or small.
return you can be ready to print again within five minutes. When Resolute brought the R-Jet 4 to market in the UK they managed to break one of the other issues with DTG printing – price. The R-Jet 4 is the first and only large format A2 print engine available for less than £10,000. Other similar priced printers on the market are much smaller print engines and cannot compete with the R-Jet 4 for reliability and performance.
