Can you use your IRA to invest in real estate?

Probably the biggest option is that these self-directed accounts allow you to invest in real estate. Not a real estate fund, but a piece of land or a residential or commercial property. Your retirement account can hold a mortgage!
Imagine having an investment vehicle secured by a property—something you can touch and see. The value can almost never go to zero. Even if the property burns to the ground, you most likely have an insurance value or at minimum a land value.
