Association of Play Industries, comprises a variety of topics designed to attract a greater audience and provide useful insights into the modern world of play for all sectors of the industry including the education sector, local authorities, community groups, as well as the public and private sectors. This year’s speakers include Dr Amanda Gummer who will discuss the different types of play and their role in child development, explaining how they can be encouraged in today's fast-paced, high tech world. Pauline Foster BSc, MPhil will

present her research ‘Health, Lifestyle & Play Amongst School Children’. The study, conducted since 2006, researched exercise, play and recreational activity among 50,000 children and young people from over 300 schools across Gloucestershire focusing on physical activity levels, views on safety of playing outside and how children spend their free time through online surveys which used games to encourage participation. Matthew Poole, regional officer for BIG

Fund, will also give an overview of the current BIG Lottery play streams with reference to recent playground case studies and give advice on how local authorities and API members can work more closely with communities to make play projects happen. For the first time this year PlayFair will

run alongside the national exhibition for The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI). Launching this year, the BALI 2011 Landscaping Show is designed to bring together the best producers of landscaping equipment, products and services with those responsible from both the public and private sectors for planning, designing and managing landscapes.
