£1.8m gym for Kirk Hallam
A NEW fitness facility has opened at Kirk Hallam Community Technology and Sports College. FITNESS4LESS has opened a 20,000sq ft club in Southwark, London. The club underwent a £1m, 12-week refurbishment and features the original railway arch brickwork, which took Network Rail six months to restore.
The 10,000sq ft gym, which sits in the
arches under the railway line, has been kitted out with a £125,000 selection of Precor equipment, including 32 treadmills, 14 cross trainers, seven upright and three recumbent bikes. Areas of the gym, housed within each of the arches, are also dedicated to spinning,
Peace Games
MORE THAN 100 pieces of cardio and strength training machines from Technogym will be used by athletes in preparation of the 2011 Military World Games, held in Rio de Janeiro. Organised by the Military Sports Council and known as the Peace Games, the event will host more than 2,000 international delegates committed to promoting peace
through sport. Six thousand athletes representing 110 countries will compete in 20 disciplines. As an official provider to the Games, Technogym will establish three fitness centres in the athletes’ villages to meet their training and rehabilitation requirements.

follows sites in Bristol, Birmingham, Watford, Newport, Cambridge Heath and Nottingham. The company aims to open two more sites in the UK in the next year.

The 105sq m gym, which is equipped by Matrix Fitness, has introduced a new dimension to the college’s core PE and lessons, making it easier to encourage students to take an active interest in health and fitness. Fitness sessions have also been developed for students from Years 9 – 13 both during lunchtime and after school. The facilities are also available for use by the local community.
