Budget boom
FROM air travel to gyms, pared down services at a reduced cost is a common feature of the leisure sector. No more so than in the hotel market, where Travelodge has announced plans to convert pubs, office buildings and even snooker halls into 100 small 20-40 bedroom hotels across the country.
Hepworth Wakefield
With more than 1,600sq m of gallery spaces, The Hepworth Wakefield is the largest purpose-built exhibition space outside London. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects, the two storey gallery is formed from a conglomeration of 10 trapezoidal blocks, with water on two sides and visibility from all directions.

The strategy will allow the low-cost hotelier to develop the brand in locations where larger sites are not available, or where it may not get planning consent for large hotels.
The move follows research commissioned by Travelodge earlier this year, which showed the budget sector to be the most dynamic segment of the UK hotel industry. According to the study, the low-cost hotel market has grown by 35 per cent during the recession and the report’s authors expect to see a UK budget hotel being built, opened or converted every five days over the next two decades.
