fit for the production floor Captec Ltd has announced the launch of a new range of ruggedised Operator Terminal Computers (OTCs) designed for process or machine automation in demanding environments. The Captec OTC-50 Series was showcased at the recent Hannover Messe 2011, Germany.


T


he Captec OTC-50 Series Industrial All-in-One touch PCs extend the delivery of powerful and reliable process automation and machine information onto the production floor in a flexible, reliable and hygienic way. The OTC-50 Series form part of a Manufacturing Execution System or ERP system, giving timely information to personnel working in production units such as food, beverage and pharmaceutical.


These Operator Terminals feature a 15.4 inch WXGA touch screen and can be mounted onto arms, poles or into panels to position


the display optimally for the production staff and their environment. “The ability to place Operator Terminals anywhere, whilst maintaining ingress protection helps manufacturers to design their equipment layouts in a flexible manner” said Max Toti, Captec Ltd, managing director. The OTC-50 Series are designed for high pressure antibacterial wash down environments. They are certified and sealed to IP66,


ruggedised, with stainless steel surrounds and cables and connectors terminated within a unique internal connector bay. “We are using all of our 25 years experience in building computers for harsh environments. Avoiding dirt traps, withstanding


high levels of dust, liquid ingress and operating in high humidity and temperatures are just some of the technical challenges we have overcome,” explained Toti. Captec’s OTC-50 is supplied with a Microsoft operating system (XP or Windows 7) pre-installed ready for the client software.


The integration of Microsoft Windows Embedded significantly reduces the setup time and installation costs. The first models in the OTC-50 Series are the OTC-51 with an Intel D510 Dual Core Atom processor and OTC-55 with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.


OBO Bettermann takes delivery of a new AF 101


When it comes to the installation of wiring OBO Bettermann is hard to miss. Cable support systems, lightning protection systems, connection and fastening systems, terminal clamps, - the product assortment of the family owned firm in the German Sauerland encompasses more than 30,000 items for the electrical infrastructure of buildings.

in the M6 to M12 range and is also capable of handling headless parts thanks to a special feeding system,” explains Stefan Prumbaum, head of the cold forming department. Prumbaum is in the process of restructuring his department. The workflow will be improved in order to handle the constantly rising capacity requirements. Also, the threading department will move to its own building. Basis of the new EWMenn system is an AF 101 flat die thread


rolling machine that has been custom tailored for the special requirements at Bettermann. “As a matter of principle we never use only one supplier for our machinery”, Prumbaum explains, “but when it comes to customised solutions you can hardly miss EWMenn.” The most obvious feature of the new machine is the complete


sound enclosure over the machine and the feeders. Inside is the most modern thread rolling machine at OBO Bettermann. Among other features the AF 101 is equipped with hydraulic die carrier clamping, push button shank length adjustment and push button die match system that allows match setting while the machine is running. Foreman Christof Grosch is enthusiastic: “Changeovers,

Already after a few


weeks the AF 101 has become a central part of the cold forming department at Bettermann. With its short changeover times and high output rates, even for larger diameters, Stefan Prumbaum and his team run a wide variety of parts on the “new one” that were previously run on other machines. The impressive number of 850 million heads parts or 2,200 tonnes in 2010 should be topped again in 2011 with the new machine.
