Revolutionary restraint gains LABC recognition

Simpson Strong Tie has announced that both its patented Heavy Engineered Strap (HES) and Light Engineered Strap (LES) ranges have been recognised for use by the LABC (local authority building control) as a registered solution.

S 64

impson Strong Tie highlights that even though HES and LES are 40% lighter than conventional 5mm restraint straps, and thinner at only 1.5mm, they perform as well as conventional straps in terms of structural strength and robustness due to their unique design.

CE approved, the HES and LES are suitable for vertical and horizontal restraint applications,

they come in a range of sizes and are easier to handle and store. Chris Sanders, marketing manager at Simpson Strong Tie, comments: “Many installers don’t

realise that if a restraint strap fails, it is almost always on the bend - regardless of the thickness of the steel. By reinforcing the bend we found that we could make the strap thinner and even add mortar key slots, which not only eliminates the need to notch out joists but also makes inspection much easier. Gaining LABC recognition gives the installer confidence in the specification and performance which more than matches traditional restraint straps.”
