CONSTRUCTION FIXINGS BiLO® The BiLO® T he BiLO®

UBt-connector - “One for All”

UBt-connector, from BiERBACH® Fastening Technique, is a highly

efficient timber joint, that eliminates the need for slitting or tapping – it simply connects timber joints of solid wood and wood material quickly and invisibly.

UBt-connector is manufactured of 4mm thick

steel and galvanised all-around. It is distinguished by its numerous application options and the high flexibility in planning and designing wood structures that it provides. The wide range of connector sizes, supplied by BiERBACH®

,

allows the optimal implementation of all connections in static wood construction. Invisible use of this smart connector enables clean component joints and the ability to meet the highest aesthetic demands in application. The BiLO®

UBt-connector can support loads in the hanging

direction (symmetric axis), lateral to the hanging direction as well as resisting tensile forces. Forces against the slide-in direction (such as lifting forces) can be absorbed in conjunction with the BiRA® BiLO®

HK-screw connector. The simple plug-in system of the UBt-connectors provides the operator with great potential

cost-reductions. Potential applications for the BiLO®

UBt-connector include

main-secondary beam joints, whether visible or invisible, which can take the form of:

• Horizontal joints less than 90° (orthogonal connections). • Horizontal slanted connections. • Vertically slanted connections. • Sloped connections, such as purlins on connectors in the roof slope.

• Connections to OSB sheets outdoors.

Post and screw connections may also be visible or invisible, and take the form of:

• Horizontal joints less than 90° (orthogonal connections). • Horizontal slanted connections. • Vertically slanted connections

Additional applications for visible or invisible connections can be:

• For connecting tanner purlins. • For connecting wall elements in wood frame construction. • For connecting beam structures. • For connecting ridge connections. • For attaching pre-manufactured attaching elements in interior finishing.

• For attaching platforms with covered balconies. • For attaching balcony railings (posts and handrails). • Versatile connections for the construction of conservatories, summer houses, saunas, harbours, exhibition stands, carports.

Inspections Permit Z-9.1-651 as does the range of BiLO® connector screws offered by BiERBACH® developed simultaneously with the BiLO®

friction coatings, guarantees easy installation. 76 Fastener + Fixing Magazine • Issue 69 May 2011

UBt-connector conforms to DiBT General Building UBt-

. These screws were UBt-connector and

therefore precisely coordinate with its requirements. The screws are corrosion-protected according to DIN 1052 and feature the tried and proven BiROX®

drive, which together with the extra BiRA® HK-screw connectors were developed for structural

timber connections and deflect lifting forces (forces against the direction of insertion) when used with the BiLO®

The method is approved under Z-9.1-667. A hole of diameter 5mm is introduced in the direction of the

upper edge of the secondary beam to precisely position the BiRA®

the assembled BiLO® at an angle ≤ 80°. The BiRA®

in effortlessly and precisely after attaching the secondary beam through the hole at the desired length. BiLO®

HK-screw connector through the longitudinal hole of UBt-connector on the secondary beam HK-screw connector is bolted

UBt-screw

connectors are also corrosion-protected according to DIN 1052, feature the BiROX®

Amongst the list of advantages outlined in BiERBACH® detailed and comprehensively illustrated BiLO® brochure are:

• An invisible, easy and powerful plug-in connection. • Load reduction of both lateral and suction (against the insertion direction) forces.

• No gap formation. • Low sinking depth and negligible cross-section reduction. • Time-saving and efficient assembly of pre-manufactured complete elements.

The BiLO® UBt-connector and its highly complementary

accessory range is just one example of Bierbach’s commitment to “the perfect connection”.
